| Of the new technologies, renewable energy plays a key role in the three central German states. In contrast to other areas of the economy, the region has a fully developed value chain ranging from research and development to production and the application at reference plants. Furthermore, central Germany offers inexpensive, natural and ecological location conditions which – in connection with relatively good territorial availability – promises a positive development in the future as well. Nonetheless, the related territorial impacts present new challenges to regional and state planning. At the same time, the consequences for the upstream and downstream sectors, especially transport and logistics must be taken into consideration. |
