New Technologies and Consequences for Spatial Planning in Central Germany

Thematic strand: The new climate future

> WEDNESDAY, 10.27.2010
> 13:30 - 17:00 h
> Lecture room 10

Conference language: German

Organizer: Regional Working Group Saxony/Saxony-Anhalt/Thuringia of the Academy for Spatial Research and Town Planning

Saxon State Ministry of the Interior

Of the new technologies, renewable energy plays a key role in the three central German states. In contrast to other areas of the economy, the region has a fully developed value chain ranging from research and development to production and the application at reference plants. Furthermore, central Germany offers inexpensive, natural and ecological location conditions which – in connection with relatively good territorial availability – promises a positive development in the future as well. Nonetheless, the related territorial impacts present new challenges to regional and state planning. At the same time, the consequences for the upstream and downstream sectors, especially transport and logistics must be taken into consideration.
