Climate change a key word with an increasing importance in the last years that can no longer be ignored. The EU Heads of States and Governments have set clear targets to be achieved until 2020: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% below 1990 levels, to increase the use of renewable energies up to 20 %, and to reduce primary energy use by 20% by improving energy efficiency. The regions of Europe will have to play a crucial role for accomplishing these demanding climate and energy targets.
Transnational programmes are an important driver for regional development. Under the European Territorial Cooperation objective they provide funding and support for regions to collaborate and join their forces, experience and good practice in addressing common challenges – climate change being one of the greatest.
On the initiative of the Central Europe Programme, this workshop will bring together experts and project actors from four programmes - Alpine Space, Baltic Sea Region, Central Europe, and South East Europe to look at transnational cooperation for joint solutions to two major issues at the heart of climate change.
What is the potential of energy efficiency and renewable energy in reducing climate change impacts and how can they be better promoted?

- Jonathon PORRITT: Founder Director of the Forum for the Future (UK) (tbc)
- Tudor CONSTANTINESCU: BPIE – Buildings Performance Institute Europe, Brussels
- Approved projects coming from the transnational programmes Central Europe, Alpine Space, Baltic Sea und South East Europe
Enhancing water resources management and prevention of risks – what are the potentials of cooperation projects?
