How do Regions Prepare for Climate Change?
Urban, Regional, National and Transnational Approaches

Thematic strand: The new climate future

> TUESDAY, 10.26.2010
> 09:30 - 17:30 h
> Hall 3

Conference language: German

Organizer: Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development within the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning

Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development

Climate change poses great challenges to cities and regions. Recently, a number of models and pilot projects have been initiated for dealing with climate change and its consequences at the transnational, regional and local level: In 2009, eight model projects were launched in the area of spatial planning (KlimaMORO) with the aim of drafting regional climate change strategies and carrying out initial implementation steps. Within the scope of the programme, Experimental Housing and Urban Development (KlimaExWoSt), urban concepts on climate change in the area of urban development and housing will be tested until the spring of 2012. There are currently more than 32 projects on climate change in the five transnational INTERREG IV B programming areas with the participation of Germany to enable the development and testing of trans-European strategies. The findings of these research projects and the national and transnational model projects will be presented and discussed at the expert event and at an interactive poster exhibition (Gallery Walk).
